Where to begin...

The World needs saving.

It's a rather bold statement if somewhat obvious. But saving from what?

Today the world and the people in it probably face more cataclysmic dangers than at any other time in history. Disease, war, climate change, environmental disasters, new technology and let's face it people in general.

This world is full of people who just want to get along and would like to live a quiet life. If these people ruled the world it would probably be a little safer, a little fairer and maybe a little more boring, in a nice way. As we all know stress is a killer!

Unfortunately for those people, and everyone else as well, this world is ruled by greedy idiots and braying sycophants who perpetuate a system designed to keep the rich and powerful unchallenged and the poor in a position where they are dependent on them just to survive.

If you are poor you need a job. Where do you get that job? From a company usually owned by a rich white guy, or collection of rich white guys. Ok so you managed to get a job and are now paid a crap wage. According to the Tories your life is now saved and your worries are over.

Em.... yeah that's not how it works, they know it and we know it. So why is it still this way???

MPs are elected and despite usually not delivering on their promises they get elected back at the next election, and that's if you are lucky enough to live in a country that even has "free" elections. All they have to do is not get caught doing bad shit (sometimes even that doesn't even make a difference, eh pig fucker?) and then make bold claims about what they want to do and blame others when it doesn't happen. All the while they claim massive pay packets, expenses and often earn more money from side jobs, something most in an office job wouldn't be allowed to do so it doesn't interfere or conflict with the job they have been hired to do. Yeah running the country isn't deemed to be a busy enough job that requires this level of focus.

Governments spend billions on nuclear weapons that everyone hopes and prays, to whatever deity they may or may not believe in, are never actually used, because it would mean the end of all human existence, instead of using that money to save lives in hospitals or grow more food in countries that need it, or find new energy sources that would end reliance on the fossil fuels killing our planet. Why? Because there is not the same amount of money or potential for power monopoly in doing these "nice" things.

Laws are made using religious beliefs as precedent in a world were many different religions exist. It is ok to believe something different to someone else and hold yourself to a different set of standards but don't force that upon other people. It only creates division and hatred.

The ways in which this world is currently fucked up are innumerable. Don't get me wrong there are things which need to be celebrated, longer lives, sending space craft to Mars, improved cancer mortality rates to name a few. However we have also invented new ways to slow march ourselves towards the straight into a fiery, sticky or otherwise incredibly unpleasant end; nuclear bombs, nerve agents, strip mining, the list goes on.

Picture this world as a pyramid. All the poor and working classes at the bottom holding up the middle classes who are striving to join the upper reaches of the rich then super rich but who in the end just hold these people up as well. Now if a pyramid is made up of blocks which are reasonably equal in weight then this, while still unfair, can be sustained. But there comes a point where if the top blocks are vastly heavier to the blocks below, the pyramid crumbles. If this world is a pyramid it must surely be on the verge of collapse to the detriment of everyone.

While this blog is active I will explore what I see are the various issues with the world in; politics, war, technology, laws, inequality, social media, attitudes to minorities and lots of other ways in which the world needs saved.

This blog is not an attempt to fix everything in the world. It may not fix anything. What it is seeking to do is free up my mind by getting this down on "paper" and if in doing so it changes a few minds or starts a conversation then all the better.

Boris the Clown made Prime Minister

Boris Johnson the Clown made Prime Minister Boris the Clown is now our Prime Minister, or is that Prime Minister of the Union, as he now wants to be called? But when he is called the clown I don’t think of a normal sad or happy clown, I think of Pennywise the clown from the Stephen King novel IT, a demonic entity hell bent on devouring those less powerful than him and who in the end is defeated by children. Sorry for the spoilers there. It’s only been a few days and PM Johnson has made a few grandiose speeches about saving the union and making the UK the best country in the world and blah blah blah. So, what are these promises? How does he plan to make them come true? And what other changes has he made?

The first post

I feel that after outlining what I going to be writing about on this blog that need to pick my first subject carefully. But before I do that, I want to be clear. I am not an investigative journalist. I do read a fair amount, especially when it comes to the news. If there is something I feel I don't understand then I do like to look it up and do a bit of basic fact checking. But this blog should be considered, as with most of the news these days, as an opinion and not absolute fact. I am not doing this to spread lies or bring people down.
