Wow what a selection we have
to, well not choose from since we don't get a vote on who our next Prime Minister is,
all we can do is wonder which drug using, elitist, selfish,.....you get the
point, will take up the reigns and lead us into ruin. From the time we
all knew this was going to happen the candidates have been spouting some of
worst ideas to come into their heads. Actually, scratch that they are probably
not the worst ideas they have which is even more worrying.
Take the bookies favourite Boris Johnson. He has the potential to be the worlds second most dangerous clown. He openly wants to give more money to the rich instead of helping the poor! Never underestimate just how low this man will go. He has been planning his way to the PMs job for a long time. If I was to guess, he backed out of the last leadership race because he knew that whoever won would face the lose lose situation of trying to bring about Brexit. By waiting for the then "winner" to fuck it up he could step in and "fix it" becoming the saviour of the right wing and cementing his position as leader of the worst Tory party in a very long time. This man has spouted racism, elitism and disregard for everyone around him, yet because he behaves in a weird way people just brush it off as quirky. It's not quirky, it is dangerous and calculating. He has the potential to be the UKs Donald Trump. A very worrying thought indeed
Next Jeremy Hunt. Every position this idiot has held in Government has meant nothing but problems for the organisations involved. Apart from the Olympics, which still had its issues due to some questionable decisions, in this case questionable meaning competency not illicit behaviour. I am not aware of him bringing about any real positive change during his time in government. His handling of the NHS was farcical. The junior doctors strike pretty much fell right at his doorstep. How about taking more money from bloody rich tech bosses and bankers before taking it from junior doctors the country needs to actually stay alive!! He wants to renegotiate the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement. How many times must the EU say it, the Withdrawal Agreement will not be reopened.
Michael Gove….no, God no, please God no. He stabbed Johnson in the back, which normally would be a good thing, however he fucked that up and has made a mess wherever he goes. Few snorts of Cocaine when he was younger. No big deal, everyone makes mistakes. Yeah, you’re right they do and usually they then pay for them. So, Mr Gove when are you going to pay for yours? Surely admitting to taking class A drugs should land you with a few months in jail or at least a fine of some sort? No? Of course not, because you are a rich Tory and there are different rules for you lot. During the Channel 4 debate he was the only one consistently moving his head to look at most of the audience, something all of them were wishing he would stop. He said anything he could to try and sound like a man of the people. FAIL!
Sajid Javid, the man to bring the UK together. Oh wait they all said that. He is the only one not to come from rich background. So why did he become a Tory? Lets face it that’s the only people the Tories really care about. One the face of it he look like one of the better candidates who might actually sympathise with the common folk. Well that is except for Windrush victims or many other victims of our cruel immigration service. I know he launched compensation schemes for Windrush victims, but simply throwing money at victims doesn’t change that fact they are victims. How long will it take before they all get that money? Launching schemes is great but it only makes a real difference if lessons are actually learned and the schemes are actually properly actioned. Something this government really fails on, Grenfell payments, Universal Credit, the list goes on. I know these are not Sajid’s responsibility or fault but the point still stands that launching schemes and initiatives only works if they are properly put in place.

Then there is Dominic Raab. A large man who looks like a
fighter. Well he does have a 3rd dan in karate and is also a fan of
boxing. Some might argue that a strong fighting PM is what we need to get us through
these hard times. I can understand that point of view, however not when he is
advocating an end to democracy. He supports the idea of suspending parliament
so that the default position of a no-deal Brexit becomes a reality. But where
would it end? The next thing he can’t get through parliament, oh wait we can just
suspend debate and free speech so that this just goes through, ok maybe it
wouldn’t work exactly like that, but if he is willing to suspend democracy
once, why not again and again when he doesn’t get his way. A slippery slope, a
very slippery slope indeed. The others might be dangerous, but Rabb is only one
advocating such an openly anti-democratic viewpoint.
Last in the race at this point is Rory Stewart, the almost anti-tory
Tory. His view is that the Tories should speak to the people more. He wants to
setup a Brexit Citizens Panel sort of thing. They would mull over the
situation, like they haven’t already been, and then give feedback. The options
would be collated and given back to parliament as options to vote on. While it
sounds like a nice idea there are lots of issues with this idea. For one, it just sounds like a peoples vote, but shortened to a ‘chosen
few’, with no legal force behind it and given back to parliament who can’t
agree on the colour of the sky at the moment, so who does this solve anything? Who does the choosing? How can
the public be assured that it is a fair representation? Are they just supposed
to take his word for it? But his big problem is that while he may be trying to appeal to the people, it’s not
the people who vote in this case. Brexit loving Tories don’t care what the general public think. So why would they vote him with an idea like this? He is playing to
the wrong audience and I don’t expect him to make it through to the next stage.
I’m surprised he made it this far.
All the while the clock is ticking down to the Brexit
disaster and it will be at least another month before we even find out who is
next up to fuck it all up. No movement, no real discussion and no way forward until
the useless Tories get their house in order.
So what about the other parties while all of this is going
on? Labour still can’t settle on what its Brexit policy is. If it just chose a
side and stuck to it then it might find itself attracting voters back almost no
matter what side they voted for. But to do that they probably would have to get
rid of Corbyn. Some may say that is a great idea, while others have bought into
a Corbyn way of thinking. But the longer Labour’s indecision and complete lack
of clarity remains the more voters it is going to lose.
The Lib Dems are riding high in the polls at the moment as
remain voters, who would have otherwise backed Labour, chose a party they feel
might fight for what they believe in, at least when it comes to Brexit. The Lib
Dems would stand to make massive gains in a general election, but I can’t see
them winning or even coming 2nd quite yet.
The SNP are sticking to their position of calling for
a peoples vote on Brexit and a 2nd referendum on Scottish Independence
with the Greens similarly backing both of these positions. All the while the
Tories shout and moan about them trying break up the union but still not really
listening to people outside of England.
UKIP are dying and the Brexit Party are replacing them as
the new far right of UK politics. If people are not careful they are going to
end up protest voting Nigel Farage into a position of power. Then we will see
real fear in the eyes of the population.
From what I can see they are all missing a real opportunity
to show the people just how badly organised and how self-centred the Tories
are. Why are they just sitting back while this happens? Why are they not on the
attack? Why are they not trying to force a general election, peoples vote or at
least protesting the lack of democracy in the choosing of our next Prime Minister?
But that is the system we have. While we technically vote
in singular MPs and not a Prime Minister, the fact is if you are voting for one
of the big two parties you are voting for who you want to run the country. If
the party in power changes its leader then surely that changes the policies and
for certain it changes the person who will represent the United Kingdom.
Johnson is advocating tax breaks for the rich and a no deal Brexit. Did all those
that voted Tory at the last election vote for those policies? They weren’t on
the manifesto. Nor was the Raab solution of pro-rogueing parliament. If the rules
of the game change, and the Tories do see this as a game, then should we not all
get a say in who we want playing it?
So there we have it we started with 11, 1 dropped out
before voting began, 3 didn’t make it past the first round and 1 dropped out
after that realising he couldn’t win. Now we are down to 6. Another vote will
be held on Tuesday to reduce the field further but let’s face it which one of these
idiots do you really want running the union? None? Well tough, you don’t get a
say. That’s democracy for you……oh wait no it’s not.
